The Grand Lake Yacht Club Sailing Foundation had its
beginnings in 2007 when several members expressed interest in finding
ways to provided increased support for the sailing activities
at Grand Lake Yacht Club and to promote local, national and international amateur sailing, maritime education
and competition. Fostering a sailing program for the disabled or handicapped was
included as an important and integral part of the Foundation Mission.
Eugene P. Zachman, Dan J. Wilhelm and Jason Sutherland helped develop
these ideas and the GLYC Board of Directors approved of the concept.
An organization to handle such matters was created and the Grand Lake
Yacht Club Sailing Foundation was incorporated August 15, 2007 as a
Colorado Nonprofit Corporation. Application was then made to the
Internal Revenue Service for recognition as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt
corporation. The determination was granted April 9, 2008 and allows it to
support a wide variety of activities through tax-deductible contributions.
Given this opportunity and the support of caring members who want to share
their love of sailing, the Grand Lake Yacht Club Foundation will fulfill its Mission.
